Add UTM tracking parameters to feed links

Pro feature. Tracking parameters label visits from feed links in an analytics system that supports them. They do not count subscribers or record every feed request as a click.

Set parameters for the correct feed

  1. For the default feed, open RSS Chimp → General → Default feed. For a custom feed, open its row under Feeds.
  2. Find URL parameter.
  3. Enter a query string such as utm_source=rss&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=weekly_newsletter. Do not paste a full destination URL.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Example

A post at https://example.com/article/ receives parameters such as ?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=weekly_newsletter. Existing query parameters and URL fragments are preserved, while supplied query keys can replace matching existing keys. Use consistent naming across campaigns.

Verify a tracked link

  1. Open the raw feed and inspect an item’s <link>. XML represents an ampersand as &amp;; this is expected XML escaping.
  2. Open the resulting link in a test browser and check its destination and query string.
  3. Preview the link in your newsletter service. It may rewrite links or add its own tracking.
  4. Confirm the resulting visit is classified as intended in your analytics setup.

Privacy and troubleshooting

Do not put email addresses, passwords, license keys or private identifiers into feed parameters. Feeds and their links can be public. If tracking is absent, verify the correct feed’s settings and clear relevant caches. Ad blockers, consent choices and receiving-service behavior can affect attribution; a tagged link is not a guarantee that every visit is recorded.
