Disable default feeds while keeping custom feeds available

The default-feed switch is available in Free and Pro. Custom feeds require Pro and have separate Enabled/Disabled settings. This lets you stop serving WordPress’s built-in feeds through RSS Chimp while retaining selected custom feed routes.

Prepare the custom URLs first

In Pro, create and enable the custom feeds you intend to keep. Open their dashboard links and confirm that the expected posts and image metadata are present. Record the URLs used by newsletters and other services.

Disable the built-in feeds

  1. Open RSS Chimp → General → Default feed.
  2. Select Disable default feeds.
  3. Click Save Changes.
  4. Open the built-in feed URL in a separate tab. RSS Chimp redirects those requests to the website’s front page.

Check custom and comments feeds separately

The built-in-feed switch does not disable registered Pro custom feeds. Open each custom URL and verify the XML. The independent Deactivate comments feed setting controls comments-feed redirects. If you need different behavior for comments, review both settings and test the relevant URLs.

What this does not do

It does not remove your posts from the website, stop scraping or revoke a copy already fetched by a reader. RSS Chimp removes standard WordPress feed-discovery links for disabled default feeds, but themes and plugins can publish other links.

Before changing a live feed

A redirect can interrupt newsletters and subscriptions that depend on that URL. Update external services deliberately and clear any page/CDN cache. To restore built-in feeds, deselect the switch, save and check a fresh response.
